a) Measurement of methanol in Pichia pastoris expression systems Pichia pastoris is increasingly being used for protein synthesis in biopharmaceutical processes, and the associated carbon source is often methanol. The need to monitor and control methanol is essential for process optimization. b) Quality control for Dimethyl dicarbonate (DMDC) preservative dosing DMDC is used for cold sterilization/preservation of soft drinks as a preferred alternative to the use of benzoate and sorbate preservatives. DMDC is added to the beverage immediately prior to bottling and undergoes complete hydrolysis within a few hours to methanol and carbon dioxide. Measurement of the small amount of methanol in the final product provides a validation check on DMDC dosage. |
